I ran both night and day

Twitter is alive with the sounds of revolution. Kind of. Over the past week twitter has become more synonymous with revolution than Paul Revere. The people of Iran have taken to the street en masse to fight for change in what they believe was a fraudulent election. If only we had their gumption.

Many people complained about the elections of George W. in 2000 and 2004 but there wasn’t half of the commotion that the Iranians are stirring. Despite what our media tell us about the Islamic Republic, the people there seem less afraid of their despots than we are of our democratically elected leaders.

This is exactly why I feel President Obama is taking the right approach to handling the situation in Iran. Simply put, we need to stop picking and choosing who we think is evil based upon our own world view. This approach of telling people how to install a democracy in the midst of our own flawed system is egomaniacal.

This approach of “the American way is the only, and best way” is exactly what creates terrorists. No one, especially in a country much older than our own, wants to be told how to revolt. Or what the result of that revolt should be. The moment American leaders attach themselves to Moussavi, will be the moment of his demise. The long history of meddling in the internal affairs of middle eastern countries has created a stigma about our intentions, no matter how well developed and altruistic they are.
